In this book, we follows Audrey Rose who was a girl that interested in forensic science and working with her mortician uncle. She want to be his apprentice but have done it secretly because of the society’s standard in 1800’s Victorian era. Her journey began when she want to find out the death of murders’ victims and who behind this crime. She’s been partner up with her classmate who was also her academic rival, Thomas Cresswell together to solve this mysteries.
Stalking Jack the Ripper was an adaptation story based on the notorious Jack the Ripper in 1888 around Whitechapel. I would say it’s such an excellent adaptation. I enjoyed it so much. I love the twisty element that makes the story more interesting.
Audrey Rose and Thomas Creswell completely have my entire heart! I love them both so much. Audrey Rose such a brave and bold girl. I love how she able to manage both standard, being a woman and at the same time a so called ‘detective’. However, Audrey character a bit overshadowed by Thomas, which I was hoping for some action from Audrey.
In other hand, Thomas Creswell portrayed as dark and mysterious with Sherlock Holmes vibes also an Audrey’s academic rival. However, I love their relationship. I love the way Thomas cared for Audrey. He’s a gentleman and quirky at some point despite his cold personalities. Here’s my favorite Mr. Creswell said, “Do give your father my regards, though. Perhaps even a kiss on the forehead. I’d like to remain on his good side, especially when I inform him I’m madly in love with his daughter.’
Shameless flirt.” How cute is that.
Overall, I’d say I really love and enjoy this book. I love the flow of the plot, the characters and the ending were pretty shocking. I wasn’t expecting this kind of ending. So, if you are a big fan of murder mystery and historical fiction, this book is definitely for you. I’d HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.
